Project Sixpack - completed?

All pics here are again only adjusted from the lighting. No photoshopping to get some more definition, to become thinner or bigger or to erase something. Only one spot in my face had to vanish, I am honest.
A sixpack is not only about training but also about friendly light and posture, especially in the beginning when your abs are still a bit shy. Or do you see them here? Well the first little pack says Hello, but the rest is snuggling under its fat layer.

Gucken was geht.
"Don't expect to see 100% results when you don't give 100% effort."
So und wieviel Prozent habe ich gegeben? Definitiv keine 100%.
Do you remember how I told you at the end of October when I just finished the Bikini Body Guide that I just want to really push me and want to see if I can reach this one fitness goal of shredded abs until advent time? Just to see if I am able to? Well and here we are now.
What I was thinking about often over the last weeks was:
"Don't expect to see 100% results when you don't give 100% effort."
Well and how many percent did I give? Definitely not 100%. And now I know even better than before: a sixpack, this is a hell lot of work, especially when you expect to get there "fast"! This and a ton of discipline. More than I am willing to give this goal. I really enjoy sports and I love being strong and seeing results. But I don't need a sixpack for feeling complete (in contrast to full healthy hair at at least tailbonelength...).
So let's say... I gave about 60 to 70%. But the exact number is not of importamnce as you will all have something different in mind thinking about my workout intensity.

Also.
So here we are: light and posture. I flex like crazy and have a studio light from the side. These are the two best pics from a series of 70!

How did I train?
3x per week resistance training following the BBG. I restarted BBG1 and therfore worked out with weeks 1-4. I was out for running irregularly, average of 2,5 time per week. One longer yoga and black roll session per week plus 10min of yoga stretch after every resistance training.
So you see my best intention to push me even harder did not work. Not with the resistance training and not with the low intensity sessions which would have been of even higher importance to reduce bodyfat. Okay I managed to fit in an extra walk of 5km every week with my little wolf, but as he is really a little turtle this turned out to be of
very low intensity.

How did I eat? The what did not change signifcantly but the when and the how. So still no proteinpowder for me and I clinged to my usual abundace of whole foods. But I followed some rules to reduce bodyfat: I only ate when I was hungry. Which lead automatically to cancel my usual snacks. Because of that my main meals grew in sizes: breakfast, second breakfast at work, lunch and dinner. I drank for the last time 30min before a meal and after meals I waited about 1-2 hours for not diluting my digestive juices. In the intervals in between I drank a lot. Water of course. I aimed for long intermitting fasts overnight between dinner and breakfast. As I eat breakfast at halb past six I aimed for not eating after 6pm - and ended up at eating not after 7pm 80% of the evenings. In addition to that I ate low carb in the evenings, got that also around 80%  of the time. There were only two cheatmeals (no cheatday!) per week. These were no extra meals but replaced my regular dinner of grilled veggies or alike and I enjoyed half a bag of chips or my pumpkin fudge. Yay.
So you see: all over the day this was neither low carb, nor low fat. I aim on eating foods dense in nutrients as I quickly noticed, that my cancled snacks lead to less food over the day even though I leveledp my serving sizes for meals. The last thing I wanted was to eat too few nutrients as this is not good for muscle growth, not food for my beloved hair of course - not good in any case. This was another reason to keep my cheatmeals small as they replaced my regular veggies and healthy fats, which are of higher priority.

You can see the muscles but also my little belly fat covering it. So I really gained the muscle which is needed to be not only thin but also strong, just they are not yet obvious, it is more a guessing, that they are there.

War das schwer?
Ja.
Was it hard? Yes. As always when you change something the first time was the hardest until you start to get used to it and build new habits. So from weeks three onwards it was okay but my motivation dropped. Especially the drinking habits needed some routine and at first I really had to remind me constantly of this new behaviour. And this needs willpower which I prefer to spent on other projects throughout my day.
And no, it was not hard. It only was "relatively" hard. Compared to the diets I had to deal with due to my ill colon, this way of eating was baby easy. But of course almost immediate pain is a bigger motivator than the idea of having a sixpack. Maybe. Someday in the future.

Ergebnis
Results: I slightly dropped my bodyfat percentage which shows mostly above my bellyline. Around my midsection of tummy, hips and thighs things did not change much if at all. But my belly is much flatter, because it is less bloated. It was really obvious that my belly liked it that I stopped snacking all the time and drank my water seperate from my meals. The drinking habits will definitely stay, but with the snacks... we will see.

To be continued? I will continue exercising with the BBG, yes, and I am thinking about doing some Fitnes Blender workouts soon again too. I enjoy being fit, healthy and strong. I am at peace with how my body looks. If there will follow even more progress, this will come or it won't.  I am at ease. I don't have to look like @Corporate Sneakers and even Kayla Itsines herself has "only" a sixpack, when she is flexing (but she is very defined even relaxed, don't be mistaken). I want to look fit and healthy. In my eyes I am already at this point. Everything which might follow is just optional. A bonus.

Summary for you: My project sixpack until advent failed.  Happy failing with haselnussblond. But I am not too sorry about that and I am shure my experiences I share with you here are helpfull for you if you consider to try it on your own. A sixpack is no project for a few weeks. Also not if you are already lean and fit. A sixpack is something for consistent training and adjusted eating habits. If you aim for a "quick" fix, be prepared to plan your whole day around achieving this goal: when you get up, when you workout (severeal times daily probably), when you drink, eat and especially when you don't, when you meet your friends without interfereing with your workout plan and mealprep will become incredibly important to avoid being "forced" to eat something which throws you back on your way, just because you are so hungry and there is nothing available matching your diet. Be preapared to sacrifise a whole lot of your daily willpower to this project and/or you need a hell lot of motivation to generate more willpower.

Also Diät plus langes Training.
So yes, it is possible to look shredded quickly. With this possibility the Men's Health is earning their low-carb bread and Kayla her Husky dogfood. But here is following a big BUT (haha...). Don't be fooled by momentary snapshots. The girls you find on Instagram with ripped abs are mostly in training for a very long time or the went through a hard diet. And nobody can tell me really that they were not really hungry in the meantime, healthy food on their plates is not the argument here. Because their lunch plates are of the same size at my saucers. Many of the girls even don't eat fruit, because it is sweet. Don't be fooled by "Oh my God, I used to ate only 1000kcal and now I am at 2000 and still getting leaner!" Well this is the right direction to eat more, when you workout more, but who is tackling workouts like in the BBG, you will need even more calories, you will still need much discipline to stay away from the almond butter. Not to mention the chocolate drawer. Or the before mentioned sixpack ladies did both: strict diet focussed on defining the body and long training, let's say over half a year at least. And even many girls doing the BBG for over one year don't all have shredded abs. I guess because they have a life besides their workouts and they consider food not only to be fuel for muscle - how relaxing, how likeable. And just to state it: never ever compare with men's progress! Testosteron is very mighty when it comes to muscle growth. Me too I have such a candidate at home and I always can't help but stare amazed at his super quick transformation training away his recent cookie feasts.

Halfyear progress using Fitness Blender programs and the BBG. On the left I am already for three months in training, just I did not have a real befopre-pic in a similar pose which I could regard suitable the internet. So: You can get a sixpack within weeks but the price you pay is very high. Consistency is the clue to get there if you want to have some life around training and mealprep. But you won't get rid of training and mealprep completely of course.
By these lines: I don't need a sixpack, not for this price of dedication. But if I get one just by being consistent in the long run, well I won't say no. We will see. And until then I keep on enjoying moving my body and eating healthy foods: whole, an abundance and knowing about the importance of training and diet but also keeping in mind this: the wonderful moments when you sit on the couch, relaxing and having a nice little feast with icecreamcake and a friend. And no it is not the same with cellery sticks.
