New hair! - Flip-in extensions

Erinnert ihr euch? Letztens war ich in Düren und habe dort mit Andrea von nrsss.de so schöne Fotos an der Rur gemacht. Tatsächlich war ich aber dort nicht wegen des hübschen Naturschutzgebietes, sondern weil ich bei Xtend-your-hair vorbei gefahren bin. Ihr kennt die Clip-in Extensions dieses Shops bereits von etlichen meiner Beiträge hier und noch von mehr Frisuren auf Instagram. Und natürlich von meiner Hochzeitsfrisur.
Do you remember? I was in Düren recently with Andrea from nrsss.de and we made these nice photos at the river Rur. But actually I wasn't in Düren for the riverside, but because I visited the store of Xtend-your-hair. You can know theses shops' clip-in extension I own for some years already from other posts here and on Instagram. And of course from my wedding hairstyle.

Was ich aber nun habe, sind keine Clip-ins, sondern Flip-in-Extensions. Aha...? Genau, die mag ich euch heute vorstellen, denn es gibt sie noch nicht lange auf dem deutschen Markt. Ihr könnt sie vielleicht schon als Halo-Extensions oder Crown-Extensions kennen, allerdings dann eher von amerikanischen Anbietern.
Normalerweise bestelle ich einfach online. Vorher natürlich Probesträhnen zuschicken lassen, damit die Farbe, die man sich am Monitor rausgesucht hat, sich nicht bei Tageslicht doch als zu hell, zu dunkel, zu rot oder zu aschig herausstellt. Das hatte ich auch diesmal brav gemacht, aber weswegen ich doch lieber vor Ort sein und anfassen wollte, hatte zwei Gründe:
What I have now are no clip-ins but flip-in extensions. Ahhh, right...? Exxactly. I want to introduce theses tresses to you today as they re pretty new on the German market. You may already know theses tresses as halo-extensions or crown-extensions but most likely only from American shops. 
Normally I just order online. Of course I bought test strands beforehand to check the colour matching my hair. This is important as the colours shown on you computer monitor can be really diffrent to the real colours in daylight. I had my test strands this time too but nevertheless I made up my mind, that it was way better to see the extentions live.
Der erste Grund ist sehr naheliegend. Ich rede ja ständig von meiner Haarstrukturveränderung hin zu immer mehr Wellen, gar Locken. Meine bisherigen Clip-ins sind für glattes Haar. Sie sind wunderbar für Flechtzöpfe und Dutts, aber im offenen Haar fallen sie mittlerweile ziemlich auf. Ich war aber unsicher, ob die starken und sehr regelmäßigen Wellen der Extensions, die ich auf den Fotos gesehen hatte, dann besser passen würden.
Der zweite Grund war, dass ich bisher noch keine Flip-in-Extensions live anfassen konnte. So langes Zweithaar ist teuer und ich wollte nichts kaufen, was hinterher doch ziept oder nicht passt oder oder.
The first reason, to head over to the store is obvious: I lament all the time here about my change in hairstructure from straight to more and more wavy, even curly. The clip-ins I already own are for straight hair. They are perfect for braids and buns, but for my hair down, they don't work (anymore). But only judging from  the photos on the website I was sceptical if the big, very regular wavy of the wavy extension could fit my own rather irregular waves. 
The other reason was, that I had no opportunity to test flip-in extensions before.And extensions this long are expensieve. I did not want to buy something which could end up being too itchy, to heavy, simply not fitting or alike. 

Schön natürliche Struktur, glänzendes Echthaar mit guter M bis C-Einzelhaarstruktur und ansehnliche Dichte. Farbton in Natura deutlich rotbrauner, weniger golden.
Natural structure, shiny real hair and nice thick tresses wkith single hair structure of M to C. The colour is much more redish brown in reality, less golden.

Und tatsächlich, da ziept nichts und es sitzt super, drum sind hier meine Flip-in Extensions, wellig, 60cm lang (längste verfügbare Länge), Farbton #9 haselnussbraun. 60cm Länge ist auch bei meiner über 90cm SSS Eigenhaarlänge ausreichend, da das Flip-in recht tief am Hinterkopf verläuft und Nackenhöhe ist ja schon grob 35cm SSS. Außerdem sind meine Extensions länger mit 60cm in gewelltem Zustand und langgezogen sogar knapp über 70cm.
And indeed, there is nothing itchy about the flip-in. So this is my new hair: wavy, 60cm long (longest length available), colour #9 hazelnutbrown. 60cm of length is sufficiant for my 90cm+ of own hair, as the flip-in is positioned rather deep at the back of the head which is already a measured length of about 36cm from front to tips. Besides that my flip-in here is longer with around 60cm when wavy, but a bit over 70cm when pulled straight.

Da, an diesem Nylonfaden hägt das ganze Gewicht. Die Kämmchen an den Seiten sind optional, ich habe sie wieder entfernt, ich finde sie eher ziepig als hilfreich. Ich habe aber auf Kämmchenhöhe auch nur sehr, sehr feines eigenes Haar.
You see this nylon thread? It holds all the weight. The comb clips are optional. I removed them already as thexy are rather itchy for me, but I have onlky very thin own hair at the position of theses clips.

Hier seht ihr gut, weshalb diese Extensions sonst auch oft Halo-Extensions heißen: weil sie kreisförmig sind bzw. wie ein Heiligenschein aufgesetzt werden. Die Haare liegen dann hinten, der Nylonfaden verläuft  vorn über den Scheitel.
Here you see, why theses extensions are also often called halo-extensions: because they are made as a circle, like a halo you can just put on like a headband. The tresses are on the sides and the back of the head, the nylon yarn is on the front on top. 

Ich hätte tiefer abteilen können. Und warten, bis die Haare ganz trocken sind, doofe Strähnen... Aber netter Glanz, den ich da im Neuwuchsbereich habe. Ihr seht, die farbe der Extensions ist eher an die Längen als an den Ansatz angepasst, damit sie im frei hängenden bereich gut verblenden. Meine Spitzen sind etwas heller, mein Ansatz etwas dunkler und kühler als das Flip-in.
I could have parted a bit lower. And I should have waited for my hair to dry completely, nasty strands... Butt nice shine in the regrowth area, isn't it? You see I chose a colour matching the mainpart of my length. My roots are coooler and darker, the tips are even lighter and more golden. But with this colour the extensions blend in perfectly well.


Und so setzt man die Flip-ins ein: Haar kreisförmig am Oberkopf abteilen, versucht dabei so zu trennen, dass der entstehende Scheitel dann dort ist, wo die Tressen liegen werden. Das übt sich, die Position zu treffen, ich kann noch ruhig etwas tiefer abteilen, wie ihr seht. Clipt die oberen Haare beiseite, Flip-in aufsetzten, Oberkopfhaare lösen, evtl. etwas einkämmen, fertig.
Bei kürzerem Haar könnt ihr auch die Extensions direkt aufsetzen und mit einem Stielkamm dann die Oberkopfhaare hervorziehen. Ich bevorzuge die  - heute habe ich mal wieder einen politischen inkorrekten Tag - "Asipalmenmethode". Da knotet dann garantiert nichts.
And this is how you use the flip-in extensio: part your crown hair circularly and clip it away on top of your head. Try to part the same shape as the position of the flip-in, I can part a bit lower still, as you see. Put on the flip-in, let down the crown hair, maybe comb all hair to blend in extensions and own hair and done. If your hair is shorter you can alternatively put on the flip-in first and then pull out the crown hair with a comb afterwards. I prefer the other method as it has no risk of tangling. 

Rausnehmen: Als würdet ihr ein Stirnband abziehen. Einfacher geht's nicht.
To remove the flip-in just do it like you would pull off a headband. Foolproof. 

Das ist so das auffälligste Foto, das ich machen konnte, um den Nylonfaden am Oberkopf zu zeigen. Mit aufrechtem Kopf sieht man ihn bedeutend weniger. Die Haare sind sehr bequem, auch schwingen und bewegen stört nicht. Nur hinter die Ohren klemmen klappt nicht so ganz.
This is the photo which shows the nylon thread the most. With your head in a normal upright position it shows less. The extensions are really comfortable, even when you move around or even swing your hair. Only pulling you hair behind the ears is not possible as usual.

Für mich das perfekte Extensions zum Offentragen. Die Struktur passt. Sie sind wirklich unglaublich bequem, der Faden drückt nicht, trotz des beachtlichen Gewichts der Tresse. Clip-ins kann ich auch nicht so weit seitlich einclipsen, weil ich über den Ohren nur sehr feinen Haarwuchs habe, dafür sind meine Clip-ins zu groß und zu schwer. Mit dem Flip-in habe ich auch vorn schön volles Haar. Und das war mir sehr wichtig. Am Hinterkopf etwas schönes zu flechten oder Volumen zu zaubern, das kann ich gut. Aber dieser platte und immer noch dünne Look von vorn, der hat mich immer noch gestört.
For me the flip-in is perfect as extensions for wearing your hair down. The structure is matching, the tresses are incredibly comfy. The thread does not press, you don't feel the weight of the infact rather heavy extensions. The best: with clip-ins I cannot thicken up the sides of my head as my own hair over the ears and around the temples is too fragile to hold the clips painfree, with the flip-in I can have full hair practically all around my head, which also looks great from the front. This was really important for me. Brading something nice at the back of my head or adding volume there is easy for me. But this flat and thin look from the front has been something bothering for me for a very long time now.

So schon auf einen Geburtstag ausgeführt und den Abend tadellos überstanden.
Like this I went to a birthday party already and felt comfortable all night long.

Diese Extensions sind sicherlich für viele eine tolle Möglichkeit sich schnell, einfach und absolut haarschonend den Traum von langem, vollen Haar zu erfüllen. Sei es als Verlängerung oder Verdichtung. Sie sind bedeutend einfacher zu handhaben und günstiger als die üblichen dauerhaften Extensions, die der Frisör mit verschiedenen Bondingmethoden anbringen kann. Es gibt kein Geziepe oder gar ausgerissene Haare (durch falsches Handling! Ist mir persönlich nie passiert) wie bei Clip-ins. Damit sind sie für mich mit nur einer Einschränkung empfehlenswert: bei Flechtfrisuren muss man die Techniken etwas abwandeln, aber dazu komme ich bestimmt ein andern mal.
These extensions most likely are the best possibilty to have long and full hair, super quickly, easy and absolute hairfriendly. They are much easier to handle and much cheaper than the common bonded extensions, which need to be put in by a hairdresser. There is no itching or even pulled out hair (from wrong handling! I personally never had problems with that) as you my have with clip-in extensions. So in my eyes these extensions are fully recommendable with only one exception from the rule: braiding techniques have to be ajusted of course. But I guess we will see this later.
