Oh ja, Fehlkäufe gehören doch irgendwie dazu. Und ich hatte auch ein paar. Und das, obwohl ich ja von Anfang an ein recht gutes Konzept hatte, um nicht in der Euphorie daneben zu greifen und etwas völlig Unpassendes zu kaufen. Passierte aber doch. Oh yes, mispurchases are also part of a wedding preparation! And I had some too, of course. Even though I made up my mind for a concept pretty early, so that I won't buy something out of euphoria, maybe nice as a single element, but not as part of the big thing.

1. Das falsche Kleid.
Am Anfang hatte ich noch die Idee möglichst günstig wegkommen zu wollen. Dieser Wunsch blieb bestehen, allerdings haben wir recht schnell unsere Vorstellungen davon, was günstig ist und was nicht, der überteuerten Hochzeitsrealität anpassen müssen (ich sage nur 300 ist das neue 30). Dieses Kleid hatte ich bei Kleiderkreisel gefunden. Hübsch, nicht? Elfenhaft, zart, mit Chiffon und nur 200€. Passte aber einfach nicht. Dafür hatte ich zu wenig Brust und was man nicht sieht: es ist 100% kratzige Kunstfaser, es war fürchterlich auf der Haut. Ich hatte Glück und bin es für 200€ auch wieder losgeworden. Also: Kauft nichts im Internet, was ihr nicht zurückgeben könnt. Oder seid euch darüber auf jeden Fall im Klaren, dass etwas, das auf einem Foto toll aussehen mag, in echt nicht nur schlechter sondern oft auch ganz anders aussehen kann. 1. The wrong dress At first I was a bit obsessed with the idea of creating a perfectly designed wedding (yes, ehm, maybe I was a bit boasting...) on a low budget. Well the idea survived, but the definition of what is a "low" budget for wedding stuff was altered as we met reality. So, right at the start I was looking for a second hand dress. I found this one at Kleiderkreisel.de. Nice thing, isn't it? Elvenlike, fragile, chiffon and that for only 200€. But: no chance to make it fit my rather flat body, and (and that was the real reason why I didn't like it) the material was all cheap synthetics. Itchy and stiff. I was lucky and could resell it for the same price I bought it before. Note: Don't shop your dress online, especially not, if you cannot return it. Be aware that the difference between how something looks on a pic and how it turns out in reality can be huge.
2. Noch mal das falsche Kleid.
Die Geschichte kennt ihr. Ich hatte mein Brautkleid schon und dann begegnete mir dieser Elfentraum aus Seidenchiffon von Marchesa Notte. Ich habe es zurück geschickt und eines der schönen Fotos hängt nun bei uns im Wohnzimmer. Oh, aber das tat weh!
Nach dem Kleid musste ich mein eigenes Brautkleid erst wieder ein bisschen lieben lernen. Also: Gute Recherche vor dem Brautkleidkauf ist super wichtig! Und wenn ihr dann EUER Kleid habt, hört auf weiter zu suchen. Es gibt tausende Kleider. Die Chance besteht einfach, dass ihr eins findet, dass dann vielleicht doch... nun ja. In meinem Fall lag es daran, dass die Kleider, die ich eigentlich wollte, (Elie Saab, Jenny Packham) für mich unerschwinglich waren (meist weit über 5000€) und ich sie einfach auch immer noch auf meiner Pinterest-Pinnwand angeschmachtet habe. Und dann, dann war da dieses Marchesa-Kleid für unter 500€. Reduziert natürlich, sonst teurer. Aber selbst regulär hätte ich es genommen. Nun ja. Ich habe mit Frisur und Schleier mein jetziges Brautkleid etwas angepasst, dass es elfenhafter wurde und jetzt bin ich wieder sehr glücklich. Der Schleier hat für mich den Unterschied gemacht. Ich liebe diese leichte Transparenz. Wäre das nicht gegangen, wäre ein großes Aber geblieben. 2. Again a wrong dress You know that story. I already had my bridal gown here at home, but then I stumbled upon that elven dream made of silk chiffon by marchesa notte. I HAD to order it! But I also HAD to return it. Fortunately we made some pics of me in the dress before and one of them is now part of our livingroom decoration. But that really hurt! I loved that dress. Note: Good research before you go shopping is crucial! And when you have found your dress, stop looking for others. There are thousands of dresses and you have a really big chance to see something you could even like more than your dress you already have. In my case, that happened despite good research before. The thing is, that I really LOVE high fashion haute couture dresses like Elie Saab und Jenny Packham. Do I have to tell you how much they cost? Plan with 5000€ and above. But as I couldn't afford a dress like these I pinned them to my pinterest board and dreamed away... And then, there was that marchesa gown. So close to what I was really looking for. And "cheap" enough for me. As it was for sale, it cost under 500€. Well, but not two dresses, that is really too expensive. After that I really had to learn to love my dress again. But luckily I found the perfect veil which made all the looks come much, much closer to my preferred elven style. I love the transparency.
3. Die falsche Jacke.
Ich wollte ja definitiv keine Stola und kein Pelzjäckchen und diese etwas mittelatlerlichen Capes passten so gut zu der elfenhaften Vorstellung, die ich hatte. Dieses Cape ist sogar speziell für mich angefertigt worden. Allerdings... ist es mir viel zu groß. Und es passt nicht zum Kleid. Deswegen verkaufe ich es gerade auf eBay, wer es also mag...? Klick. Also: Wenn ihr euch schon was schneidern lasst, dann nur bei einer Schneiderin vor Ort und nicht übers Internet. Und kauft wirklich ERST das Kleid und dann die anderen Dinge. 3. The wrong jacket I always knew that I didn't want an ordinary bridal jacket out of lace or (fake-)fur and this somewhat medievalcoat was something that matched so good my imagination of an elven wedding outfit. That cape was even made for me! Nevertheless it turned out much too large and after I had my dress here it was undeniable, that cloak and dress didn't match. That is why I resell it right now. Have a look at ebay here. :) Note: First the dress, then the accessoires. Not the other way round. And if you find a taylor who will sew something for you: chose a taylor you can go to visit, not only online.
4. Der falsche Gürtel
Fast der gleiche Fehler wie beim Cape. Ich hatte den Gürtel gefunden, mich verliebt, ihn gekauft und dann passte er nicht zum Kleid. Er ist bereits verkauft. 4. Wrong sash Same misstake as I made with the cape. I saw the sash, ordered it and than had to admit that it didn't match the dress. Fail. The belt is already sold again.
5. Dawanda-Produkte kommen nicht unbedingt aus Deutschland
Für etwas Deko und Selbstgemachtes haben wir Maskingtape bei Dawanda bestellt. Im örtlichen Bastelladen hatten sie nicht die Tapes, die uns gefallen hätten. Nun, der Shopbetreiber saß dann doch in HongKong. Hatte ich nicht gesehen. Bei ebay und amazon weiß ich, dass man darauf achten muss. Bei Dawanda hatte ich irgendwie gedacht, das seien alles deutsche Händler.
Unnötig zu sagen, dass die Tapes nicht mehr rechtzeitig ankommen werden. Vermutlich. Also mussten wir andere kaufen. Also: wenn ihr von far, far away ordert dann mindestens 2 Monate vorher. Besser schaut ihr euch nach nationalen Alternativen um. Muss auch nicht sein so ein Röllchen Klebeband einmal um die Welt zu schicken... 5. Dawanda is not imperatively "made in Germany" For my foreign followers, I guess that is the same for Etsy too (not imperatively "made in the USA". So check out where the shop is located otherwise what you order can find it's way to you too late or you might also have to face some taxes. In my casee, that was not such a big deal, as I only noticed too late that I ordered masking tape from Hon Kong and not from somewhere in Germany. But sending masking tape around the world is not so nice, I think...
