Haarwachstum erfolgt in Phasen.
1. Anagenphase/Wachstumsphase:
Intervall an.
Please be patient with my translation. The technical terms are bit difficult for me.
Hairgrowth in general
Human hair can become 7 years old (attention please: that's average! Much longer and much shorter is also possible). Concerning an average grwoth of 1cm per month, hair can grow 7 * 12 = 84cm long. Thats the real length, not SSS. Not every hair on year head has the same terminal length respectively the same terminal age.
Hairgrwoth comes in phases.
1. anagenphase/growth:
The hair is firmly ancored in the scalp, the folicle produces new cells and presses them out of the head in the well known slow tempo of about 1cm/month. For absolte newbies: hair is growing from the root, not from the tip. You see that when you look at people who dye their hair and the uncoloured new hair grows directly out of the head, not down in the tips. And that is why a haircut does not affect your growthrate. You cut the ends, that's something that does not matter to the folicle. The ends look thicker after a cut, that is why some have the illusion that it grows better afterwards.
The anagenphse lasts about 7 years (at other bodyregions it is much shorter).
2. katagenphase/interim:
The hair seperates from the root and is transported further to the surface. No more growth yet.
3. telogenophase/resting:
No more nutrtionsupllement for the hair, it is actually dead. After 1-3 month these hair shed. These hairs can easyly be pulled out without pain or resistance.
4. interphase/shedding:
At the end of the telogenphase the hair is gone and the folicel moves back deeper into the scalp. A new circle with the anagenphase begins.
Was bedeutet das für Haarausfall?
Haare,
What does that mean for hairloss?
Hair which has terminated the anagenphase will shed. Katagen- and telogenphase are irreversible. So the aim of each hairloss therapie is to prolong the anagenphase. Because the telogenphase lasts about 3 month you always have to wait 3 month since the start of the therapy till the hairloss stops. No ways so safe telogen hairs, they are already dead. First improvements can be a noticed a bit earlier than after 3 month.
an Zopfumfang.
Man
verliert nie konstant gleich viele Haare. Gewisse Schwankungen sind
normal und kein Grund zur Panik. Es gibt keine klare Grenze, ab wann es
schlimm wird, das müsst ihr selbst beobachten.
When do we talk about hairloss?
Simply if there are more hairs than ususal in the brush?
No.
Medically relevant ist the (artificially determinated!) demarcationline of 100hairs/day. Everybody loses hair every day even if he is all healthy, that's normal. The amount of shed hairs per day can vary a lot from individual to individual. Some lose about 5 hairs, some about 50 and some even more. If it is normal for you to lose about 80 hairs, some days with 100 hairs are no reason to worry. But if you normally shed only 5 hairs and then you find 40 hairs in your comb, you should stay focussed. No need to panic, even though this is much more than you are used to: shedding 40 hairs per day won't make you bald or even make your ponytail shrink.
The relation between normal and increased shedding (e.g. double as ususal) is important but also the absolute number of hairs (e.g. more than 100).
Of course there are gradings from slightly increased shedding (more tha usual) over light hairloss (around 100) to more significant hairloss (around 200) and massive hairloss (several hundreds of hairs). There is no fix border to say: this is hairloss, this is not. You have to observe your brush situation and decide for yourself. I can only give you certain guidelines.
How do I count my shed hairs?
Yes, an instruction is needed.
Don't count only one day but for at least one washingcycle, better for a whole week and than calculate the average. Some freak values every now and then are normal, so you have to do your maths to have a representative number. And it is normal to shed more hairs the day you wash, that is why you have to count for a whole washing cycle.
For this counting week/washing cycle I recommand to wear the hair tightly bunned or braided, so that you can count every hair and don't miss those you shed during the day and which fall on the floor or stay at your clothes or on your pillow. Only open your hair to brush or comb it.
You only count hair with root. You can see that tiny little white ball at one end? No root, no shed hair. Than it is brakage and your problem is elsewhere.
If I have hairloss, should I wash less often to prevent more shedding?
No. The hairs in the telogenphase will shed, whether you wash more or less often. Example: if you wash every day and shed about 200 hairs and than switch to a washing cycle of two days, you will probably shed 50 hairs the day you don't wash, but 350 hairs the day you wash. The average is the same, but 350 hairs look horrible. The longer you wait to wash, the bigger the differnce becomes. It depends on you: do you prefer a constant high amount of hair in your brush or do you prefer to have almost normal days and than when you wash an enormous hairball.
I recommand to wash as often as it is needed, as often as you have washed before the shed. Let your hair look as good and as fresh as possible. You are already worrying enough about it.
